Herga's New Gate Process Encourages Development Inclusion of Staff.

We are always looking to further improve our business performance, specifically to increase productivity, improve quality and reduce lead times.

We trust our staff to collectively make decisions on product designs, assembly methods and other areas which many years of experience can provide priceless insight for any design processes.

You may have seen the above model in our previous blog posts, including our “Herga Lean Efforts” post and our “New Design Factory” post. Our new ways of working and our New Design Factory revolve around using the gate process to minimise risk to our customers and staff alike. We’re actively promoting an open team culture, this was recently apparent when designing another new product due to launch in Sept 2016.

Here the whole team including Line Supervisors, Production staff, Quality, Sales and Engineering are discussing options to make improvements and understand the theory of the design, promoting questioning.

Sarah Sparks, Production Operator said “It was good to see the products before we get them. In the past we would just be given the part and asked to build it. I thought this was a good experience.”

Not many innovative companies adopt this way of process thinking. Innovation comes from inside us all. Every member of the team here at Herga possesses levels of innovation and we openly discuss the opportunities to improve our product, our business and ourselves on an almost daily basis. This culture and belief from the team naturally provides us with better product designs, ideas and creativity…….this is also why Herga has the “Ideation” area.
