Herga Technology and 3D Printing Product Solutions

At Herga we are continuing our journey to improve business performance, continually questioning advanced manufacturing techniques and methodology as well as capturing increasing levels of diversification.

Recently we have been actively researching and considering means of rapid entry prototype level physical components, with the main drivers being new conceptual product entry, an increase in productivity, improving quality and repeatability and also critically to reduce cost and process lead- times. One specific process kept appearing was additive manufacturing or 3D printing!

3d Printing Product Solutions

3D printing has taken over the headlines in many different areas of industry and the technologies are developing each year, supporting the improvement ambition of many manufacturing businesses globally, just like Herga Technology.

Investment in this technology was a logical stepping stone decision for us and one that matches the ambition of our company and our ongoing improvement journey; our new 3D printer was received this month.

We can now effectively develop a product, print and test in advance of our competitors and before any significant investment in injection mould tooling, manufacturing fixtures or samples is needed. This allows us to refine those ideas into real turnkey, bespoke and personal product solutions for our growing number of customers and distributors around the world. 3D printing gives the customer and our staff the benefit of seeing product ideas coming to life within 24 hours of concept.

The Advantages of using 3D Printing

The advantages of 3D Printing support the full design process; it is quicker, easier and more competitive to develop new specific designs for our customers. The system also supports our production engineers to develop manufacturing and testing solutions. 3D printing systems will adapt to any part of the Herga gate system from initial concept idea through to jigs, fixtures, test equipment or even injection mould tools.

Aligning these technologies into our already successful Gate process (shown below) gives our customers, new business partners and staff the confidence that product development and manufacturing in Herga Technology is taken very seriously and with accelerating ambition.

Paul K Edwards – Head of Engineering and Quality says “The Company has made the decision to invest in 3D printing as we see the benefit to our customers, distributors and are staff. The system provides quick product solutions parts we use in our gate process to analyse refine and implement product quicker. The system was really quick to install and we were making our first part within the hour. Continued developments like 3D printing will maintain Herga as a leading manufacturer of product solution for our customers.”
