About this product:

REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals)

REACH came into force on 1st June 2007 and is the single biggest piece of chemical legislation implemented since the EU was founded; it replaces more than 40 pieces of legislation with a single, more streamlined, system that is managed by one Agency. REACH applies to all chemicals thus products, that contain chemicals or where chemicals are used in the manufacturing process, are also affected (e.g. clothes, furniture, plastic parts, etc.).
The basic aims of REACH are to:

In order to bring this about, REACH sets out a number of deadlines and responsibilities that chemical producers must comply with if they intend to manufacture or import chemicals into the EU.

Herga Electric Limited
Herga does not produce or import chemicals but we do use chemicals and polymers in our manufacturing process; we are thus classified under REACH as being a downstream user:

someone, other than a manufacturer or importer "who uses a substance, either on its own or in a preparation, in the course of his industrial or professional activities" (article 3(13) of REACH)

Our products are defined as articles in REACH:

an article is an object which during production is given a special shape, surface or design which determines its function to a greater degree than its chemical composition.

We understand our duties and responsibilities under REACH and intend that, by the appropriate deadlines, chemicals used in our products will have been registered by an upstream supplier. In the unlikely event that a chemical is restricted, or no longer available, and a product is affected, we will notify the relevant customers at the earliest opportunity and do our utmost to supply an alternative.

We are in the process of contacting our suppliers and will use this webpage to inform customers should a product contain any of the substances on the REACH Candidate list (SVHC). Currently, a few pvc (tubing and sleeving) products contain DEHP; we are still querying our suppliers about the January 2010 list. Customers should contact us (see below) about individual products.

Herga has implemented a single point of contact for customers (reach@herga.com) with any queries about REACH and the products they source from us.
